Course 4B: 14 Aug – 27 Aug 2011 (2 weeks)

Help your students get the most out of studying curriculum subjects through the medium of English. This option is aimed at secondary school teachers who teach or intend to teach their subject (other than English - for example History, Geography etc.) through the medium of English.

We will focus on classroom language; strategies for integrating content and language, and developing communicative competence; working with written, audio and visual text; developing subject-specific language and supporting the students in the learning process. There will be opportunities for teachers to participate in micro-teaching with feedback in their own subject.

BRITAIN TODAY + TEACHER DEVELOPMENT

Course 1B: 3 July – 16 July 2011 (2 weeks)
Course 2B: 17 July – 30 July 2011 (2 weeks)

Week 1: Update your knowledge of Britain today – popular culture, people in the news, politics, royalty, education, humour, housing etc – and work with ideas and materials (questionnaires, DVD/video, cartoons, current articles from the media and the Internet) that you can adapt for classroom use.

Week 2: This option is directly related to your own teaching situation and needs.  Bring with you your course book and one or two teaching issues you would like to work on. With this option you will have the opportunity to explain your setting and the main areas that concern you in your teaching at the moment. You will exchange practical advice and new ideas with your fellow participants, co-ordinated by an experienced tutor and in a collaborative atmosphere.
