Hilderstone News:

  • Staff changes  - In the last few months, Hilderstone has seen several staff changes, which we wanted you all to know about. Ian Johnson, who was our Director of Studies until 2013, has been appointed College Principal, taking over from Jon Burton.  Jon left in July to become the Chief Executive of IATEFL.
Ian is keen to build on Hilderstone’s success and reputation and is busy planning new courses, which we will let you know about as soon as they are launched.
Nancy Card, whom many of you will know as our Head of Administration, has made a career change and has begun training in school teaching.  Natacha Telo (Academic Administrator) is now working alongside Lynne Hoenes, Head of Marketing and is dealing with enquiries and enrolments.  Sue Simpson, our Marketing Assistant, got married in September and has also left the College.
Some of our teachers and trainers retired in the summer, including Tessa Woodward, Seth Lindstromberg and Deborah Robson.  We’re sure you’d like to join us in wishing them a happy retirement.  We held a barbecue in their honour in July.  You may have seen some photos on our Facebook and Twitter sites.

Cambridge exam students remembered

Once again we have been celebrating exam success with our Cambridge students. Students who did the CAE (Advanced) and the FCE (First) exams produced a great set of results, including 100% success at FCE. We congratulate the students and thank the teachers for their hard work.

Since the last edition we have welcomed groups from Germany, Portugal, Switzerland and the Netherlands and will soon be welcoming new friends from Italy too. Since the beginning of September, we have welcomed students from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the UAE and Turkey.

Grammatical hint
This is a problem that often confuses British people. When do you use “less” and when do you use “fewer”?
We’ll give you answer in the next edition.

Wordwheel
Can you discover the seven-letter word using each of the letters only once? Email your answer to us, including your name and nationality, and we'll let you know who was the fastest in next month's edition!

Last month's winner: congratulations to Nadia La Cava from Italy for being the first to reply to us with: 'example'.

Student stories
Ja (Suttithra) completed two (yes two!) Masters degrees in Law in the UK and is currently managing a holiday island resort while waiting to take her bar exams for the Thai Ministry of Justice.

“I came here with low skills in English. However, I made a lot of progress and I graduated with two Master's degrees from UK universities. I am proud of myself!

At Hilderstone there were amazing teachers, helpful and friendly staff and great host families. I am very thankful to you all for always supporting me. I enjoyed everything in Hilderstone. Thank you for precious moments and good memories.”
